Community Outreach and Engagement

COMMUNITY VALUES

For over two decades, CYM has fostered strong character and a spirit of inquiry in music students of all ages. While some music teachers would be satisfied with producing proficient instrumentalists, our vision for each CYM student is much greater. In addition to learning to play their instruments well, students learn to be musically and culturally curious, develop a powerful form of self-expression, and benefit from a well-rounded education. CYM has various offerings for educators who wish to enrich their students’ educational experiences through the use of music and movement in their classrooms.

Student and Faculty Performances

CYM concerts and recitals give students the chance to see their peers perform in a range of formal and informal settings. CYM faculty also maintain a full performance schedule so that students can see their teachers in action. The wider Pittsburgh area offers a host of excellent cultural opportunities sure to delight and engage younger audiences. View a calendar of our events and performances here. We welcome everyone to these showcases of musical depth and growth. There truly is something for everyone!

Early Childhood Music (ECM) Pop-Up Classes

  • Ages 3 - 6
  • The Early Childhood Music Program offers a significant learning opportunity for children from two to five years of age. Research and experience indicate that the younger a child begins her musical study, the more aptitude for success she acquires. This heightened potential can enhance academic skills as well as musical abilities. In an ECM class, young students learn to sing in tune, demonstrate a steady beat, develop motor skills and polish the listening and collaborative skills needed to play in an ensemble.
  • Standards 9.1.3.A, 9.1.3.B, 9.1.3.C, 9.1.3.E, 9.1.3.H, 9.1.3.J
  • Requirements: 10’x15’ minimum open space for movement for 8 students. For classes larger than 8 students, on-site teachers will be required to assist. If you are not sure if your space will accommodate our needs, we would be happy to schedule an in-person visit to assess the situation.
  • To book an ECM program in your classroom, contact the CYM office at info@youngmusicians.org or 724.935.0505

Students experience musical concepts through movement, singing, and classroom instruments. Music literacy training is also included via reading and writing activities.
  • Standards 9.1.3.A, 9.1.3.B, 9.1.3.C, 9.1.3.E, 9.1.3.H, 9.1.3.J
